US state flags redesigns
Most American state flags are not great. They are either a "seal on a bedsheet" or cluttered with name tags that rely on generic "America" symbols: red, white, and blue, eagles, and stars representing their order in the Union. These don't represent a specific place; they just say "we’re a smaller piece of a bigger country."
This project is about fixing that. I’ve overhauled the designs to focus on local symbols, colors, and ideas that actually set each state apart.
Design principles
- Standardized ratio
- All redesigns are 2:3 for consistency.
- No name tags
- No text generally. Mottos or symbols with integrated text are acceptable, but the state name is gone.
- No Confederate style
- Confederate imagery is significantly stepped back. No overt Confederacy symbols.
- Local identity
- Reducing generic America red, white, and blue in favor of symbols and colors unique to the state.
