Virginia state flag redesign
RedesignCurrent Virginia flag
While Virginia’s seal has a certain gravitas, it feels more like a monument to the American Revolution than a reflection of the state itself. The theme of "Victory defeating Tyranny" could apply to any of the original thirteen colonies, and the popular fascination with the seal's anatomical details isn't a strong enough reason to keep a design that lacks a unique connection to modern Virginia.
Design and symbolism
I have replaced the seal with the dogwood, the state flower, set against a blue and red bicolor field. At the center, a yellow star.
Red and Blue
Traditionally part of the south, but nowadays much more comparable to thr states to the north, Virginia sits at a crossroads of culture. This is shown in the horizontal bicolour of Red and Blue.
Dogwood
The Dogwood, the state flower, displsyed proudly as thr main element on the flag.
The Star of the Nation
The star in the center evokes proximity to Washington, D.C., while the red, white, and blue palette reflects the state's vital role as home to key federal agencies.
