Current North Carolina flag
North Carolina's current flag carries Confederate associations, along with a big-ass "NC" and two dates that turn the flag into something closer to a historical placard than a cohesive design.
Design and symbolism
For North Carolina, I've kept the overall format of the current state flag, reworked in the style of the Guilford Courthouse flag. The hoist is changed to white with two blue eight-pointed stars, while the fly has twelve horizontal stripes in red and blue.
The twelfth state
The twelve horizontal stripes represent North Carolina as the 12th state to join the Union.
Guilford Courthouse flag
The blue eight-pointed stars on a white field, and the blue and red stripes are all taken directly from the Guilford Courthouse flag, connecting the design to this significant reminder of North Carolina's history.
Revolutionary history
The two stars represent the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence of May 20, 1775, and the Halifax Resolves of April 12, 1776, replacing the written dates on the current flag with visual symbols.
