Current Florida flag
Florida's current flag combines a complicated state seal with a red saltire veiling Confederate symbolism. While the saltire is officially described as the Cross of Burgundy, the design does not resemble the traditional cross it claims to represent.
Design and symbolism
My redesign replaces the current saltire with an actual Cross of Burgundy and replaces the seal with a simplified orange-sun element at the center.
The Cross of Burgundy
The Cross of Burgundy represents Florida's Spanish colonial history, replacing the current saltire with a more historically accurate version of the symbol.
Orange
The central element is colored orange and shows a cross-section of the fruit, representing Florida's citrus industry and its association with the state.
The Sun
The same element also represents Florida's sunshine and warm climate through its shape and rays.
