South Dakota state flag redesign
Redesign
Current South Dakota flag
South Dakota's sun is a strong concept, but it is buried under a complex seal and the state's name, which appears twice. The older version featuring only the sun was already a stronger design.
Design and symbolism
My redesign is based on the design proposed by Dick Termes. By removing the outlines, I've refined the original concept into a bold, clean flag that puts the sun at the center of the design and gives South Dakota a distinctive visual identity.
I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands throughout Australia on which these federal divisions are drawn and pay my respects to their Elders, past and present.
