Current Pennsylvania flag
Pennsylvania's current flag is another seal on a bedsheet, this time with a white outline around the seal. The state has stronger symbols to draw on than a crowded coat of arms.
Design and symbolism
My redesign is a horizontal blue, white, and gold tricolor inspired by Pennsylvania's iconic license plate. The central white band features three black keystones.
The Keystone State
The three black keystones represent Pennsylvania's nickname, the Keystone State. They also represent the state's three founding counties.
Penn's legacy
The overall design evokes the heraldic design of William Penn's arms, with the three circles replaced by the keystones.
Blue and gold
The blue, white, and gold bands draw from the colors of Pennsylvania's iconic license plate, connecting the flag with a familiar symbol of modern Pennsylvania.
I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands throughout Australia on which these federal divisions are drawn and pay my respects to their Elders, past and present.
