Current Washington flag
Washington distinguishes itself from the usual seal-on-a-bedsheet by using a green field to evoke the state's natural beauty, but the design remains trapped in the same uninspired format. Furthermore, it's a complicated representation of George Washington's face.
Design and symbolism
My redesign replaces the seal with George Washington's banner of arms, rendered in green and white instead of the traditional red and white. The entire banner is rotated 270 degrees so that the design points west.
George Washington
The banner of arms represents George Washington, replacing the portrait on the current flag with a simpler and more distinctive symbol.
The Pacific Northwest
Rotating the banner 270 degrees makes the design point west, emphasizing the state's position in the Pacific Northwest.
The Evergreen State
Replacing the red with green creates a visual connection to Washington's natural landscape and the Evergreen State.
I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands throughout Australia on which these federal divisions are drawn and pay my respects to their Elders, past and present.
