Missouri state flag redesign
RedesignCurrent Missouri flag
Interestingly, Missouri has the basis of a decent flag hidden in there. But it's effectively meaningless, just generic "Red, White and Blue". Furthermore, the central seal is overly complicated. The crescent snd bear have no real association with the stste. And it has 62 stars!
Design and symbolism
My redesign reflects a geographic layout of the state. Inspired by the flags of St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, and Jefferson City, it evokes the state if Missouri in a way the bear snd cresent can't.
The River and Cities
The white and blue Missouri River flows straight through the heart of the state, with three stars positioned below it to reflect the location of the major cities south of the river.
The 24th State
Using three 8-point stars creates 24 total points to signify Missouri’s status as the 24th state.
Born of the city flags
The blue and white river is replicated from the flags of both St. Louis and Jefferson City, while the red and blue palette is drawn from Kansas City and Jefferson City. The 8-point stars mirror the design of the new 2022 flag of Springfield.
