Current Alabama flag
Vexilogically, the current red saltire on the white is a good design. But it's got that undercurrent of Confederacy. Even if it's not intentional, and I'm not entirely convinced it's not, the similarity is still there.
Design and symbolism
I keep the satire but swap the red and white. Then I add the black to the background on the hoist and fly sides.
Peace
The white saltire representing peace in a state with a history of racial issues. The the saltire stretches across the whole design bringing the whole dtste together.
The landscape, the soil
The red and black background represent the red clay of Piedmont region and the black soil of the Black Belt.
The Black Belt soul of the land
The Black Belt also references the cultural Black Belt across the middle of the state. displaying blac against the hoist side signifies the importance.
I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands throughout Australia on which these federal divisions are drawn and pay my respects to their Elders, past and present.
