New Jersey state flag redesign
RedesignDesign and symbolism
My design for New Jersey is a buff-colored field charged with a light blue saltire and three stars. The color palette is drawn from the official state colors, buff and Jersey blue, originally selected by George Washington for the New Jersey Continental Line. The saltire is a reference to the flag of Jersey, in the Channel Islands, with the red changed to blue, while the three stars signify New Jersey's status as the third state to ratify the United States Constitution. The composition combines the state's namesake heraldry with the numerical and military history of its founding.
