Design and symbolism

California’s flag is genuinely iconic, and the text is a historical artifact in its own right. If it were a motto, I’d be inclined to keep it, but because it functions as a literal name tag, it has to go.The rest of the design is strong enough to stand on its own. By removing the text and slightly adjusting the proportions of the bear and the star to balance the space, it moves from a historical protest banner to a clean, timeless icon.
