Victorian flag redesign

Design and symbolism

The redesign for Victoria utilises the state colours of navy blue and white, integrating the traditional Victorian Southern Cross with the Australian pale. By placing the stars on a navy blue hoist, the design ensures the Southern Cross is displayed in its historically correct format of white stars on a blue field, while the white fly provides a clean, distinct contrast that follows the unified national system.

Navy blue

Navy blue is the official state colour of Victoria, and asking with white, represents the state’s historical identity and its sporting heritage.

History in name

The navy eight-pointed star is a dual reference to the stars found on the Eureka flag and the lower star of the traditional state badge, while the Queen Victoria era St Edward's Crown acknowledges the state's namesake, Queen Victoria.

Everlasting

The original design of the Southern Cross as used by Victoria is retained, signifying the link to history and heritage.

Vice-regal standard

Governor standard

The vice-regal standard for the Governor of Victoria features a transposed colour palette to follow heraldic tradition, utilising the white metal as the base for the Australian pale. The hoist is white with navy stars, while the fly is navy blue, featuring the pink common heath within a white disc.
