National flag of Australia

Design and symbolism

The proposed Australian flag replaces the Union Jack with a double triangle design. The geometry provides a distinct, modern identity while retaining the traditional blue field and the Southern Cross.

Double triangle

The gold chevron represents a forward-looking nation, creating a clean break from colonial heraldry with the green hoist representing new beginnings.

Commonwealth Star

The seven-pointed star remains the central symbol of Federation, now given prominence within the hoist geometry.

Southern Cross

Retained in its traditional configuration on the fly, representing the nation's location in the Southern Hemisphere.
