Governor General's standard redesign

Design and symbolism

The standard used by the Governor General as the vice-regal representative of the crown in Australia. It adopts the Australian pale to align with the broader national vice-regal designs of the states. It then continues the theme, displaying the official floral emblem, the golden wattle.

Australian Pale

The vertical hoist panel follows the Australian pale design first established with the Northern Territory flag, and later the flag of the Australian Capital Territory. In Australia's heraldic colours of gold and blue, it provides a consistent base for all vice-regal standards.

Commonwealth Star

Unlike the state govnerors' flags, the Governor-General's standard features a single blue Commonwealth Star to represent the unity of the six states and territories under one federal authority.

Floral emblem

The national floral emblem, the golden wattle, as the central symbol, representing the natural heritage of the Australian continent.
